TinyCAD Recommended
TinyCAD has a great user feel with intelligent wire
management during placement and dragging, but a few minor bugs.
Get a Stable Version
TinyCAD V2.60.01 and later are much more stable than previous releases.
You can use TinyCAD with confidence, even with component libraries you can find
on the internet.
V2.60.01 Bugs
- The "tool" window drawing can get out synch -
with experience you can continue to operate it - or you can restart TinyCAD
- Rarely the program will crash.
- Pasting components or sections of
circuit can paste wrong symbols when multiple symbols exist with the same
name.
- A dash "-" character in a package attribute can cause a corrupt netlist to
be exported. Remove the dash to fix.
Technicalities
TinyCAD is open source and under active
development with bug fixes and improvements in progress. Good Linux/Wine
compatibility is expected soon with removal of the JET database dependency.
This
article includes information on how to run TinyCAD under wine even with the
JET dependancy.
Library Files Available
When you install VeeCAD you get a number of TinyCAD libraries providing well
drawn symbols of popular part numbers. You can get these files by
downloading the free version.
Multisheet Schematics
- To avoid duplicate component designators, name parts on sheet 1 as R101..R102 etc and on sheet 2 as R201..R202 etc.
- To join nets across sheets, use same net name with Power symbols or net Labels.
